Frequently Asked Questions
Q. Is it safe to transport your XRF analyser?
Many of our clients transport these devices on planes and road vehicles routinely, so this is a good question to pose. Portable XRFs require a power source to be able to produce X-rays, so the unit is not considered dangerous goods for transport as long as no batteries are connected. Hence it does not need to be declared as such. However, the lithium-ion batteries we use to power the XRFs are classified as dangerous goods and should be transported via courier under the code “UN3481”.
For transport on a plane, simply check the analyser into checked in luggage securely packed in its tough case. No dangerous goods to declare. However, the batteries travel in your hand luggage with the contacts covered (with tape).
